Kepler-1008 b: A Transiting Earth-like World

Kepler-1008 is a star located 922 light-years away, and it is orbited by one planet. The star is estimated to be 6.76 billion years old, with a mass of 0.81 solar masses and a radius of 0.78 solar radii. Its temperature is 5070 K. The star's reported mass estimate is smaller than the Sun's, its reported radius estimate is smaller than the Sun's, and its reported temperature is cooler than the Sun's.

The planet, Kepler-1008 b, was discovered in 2016 by the transit method, in which a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint and causes a small dip in observed brightness. Repeated dips help establish the planet's orbital period, which is 12.4 days. Its radius is 1.28 Earth radii, larger than Earth's radius.

Kepler-1008 b is classified as Earth-like, a size class that stays within 1.5 times Earth's radius. This classification compares radius, not composition.
