Kepler-1744 b: A Neptune-Like World in a Distant System

Kepler-1744 is a single-star system located 3560 light-years from Earth. The host star has a mass of 1 solar masses and a radius of 0.941 solar radii, making its reported radius estimate smaller than the Sun's. Its temperature is 5620 K, which is cooler than the Sun's. One planet orbits this host.

That planet, Kepler-1744 b, is Neptune-like and was discovered by the transit method in 2021. During a transit, the planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness that repeats with each orbit. Kepler-1744 b completes one orbit in 37.1 days and has a radius of 3.77 Earth radii, larger than Earth's. In size classification, a Neptune-like planet reaches 4 times Earth's radius, so this measurement places Kepler-1744 b within that range.
