Kepler-1622 and Its Earth-like Planet

Kepler-1622 is a star located 2600 light-years away with one known planet in orbit. The host star is estimated to be 2.19 billion years old, with a mass of 1.31 solar masses and a radius of 1.5 solar radii. Its temperature is 6440 K. Each of these values is larger or hotter than the corresponding solar property: the star's reported mass, radius, and temperature estimates all exceed the Sun's.

The system's only known planet is Kepler-1622 b, discovered in 2016 by the transit method, in which a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint and causes a small dip in observed brightness. Repeated dips help establish orbital periods. Kepler-1622 b completes one orbit every 10.8 days. Its radius is 1.47 Earth radii, which is larger than Earth's and places it within the Earth-like size class, defined as no more than 1.5 times Earth's radius.
