Kepler-1586 b: A Super-Earth Around a Hot, Massive Star

Kepler-1586 is a star located 1800 light-years away, and it hosts one known planet. The star is 1.7 billion years old, has a mass of 1.45 solar masses, a radius of 1.75 solar radii, and a temperature of 6680 K. Its reported mass and radius estimates are both larger than the Sun's, and its reported temperature is hotter than the Sun's.

The planet, Kepler-1586 b, is classified as a Super-Earth. A Super-Earth is a size class that reaches 2.5 times Earth's radius, and Kepler-1586 b's reported radius estimate of 1.52 Earth radii is larger than Earth's. It was discovered in 2016 by the transit method, in which a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint and causes a small dip in observed brightness.
