Kepler-1231 b: A Transiting Earth-Sized World
Kepler-1231 is a star located 3220 light-years away, with a mass of 1.01 solar masses, a radius of 1 solar radii, a temperature of 5780 K, and an age of 4.17 billion years. One planet is known to orbit it.
That planet, Kepler-1231 b, was discovered in 2016 by the transit method, which detects the small dip in a star's brightness when a planet passes in front of it from our viewpoint. Repeated dips help establish the planet's orbital period.
