KELT-15 and Its Giant Planet

KELT-15 is a star system 1060 light-years away whose host star has a reported mass estimate of 1.18 solar masses, a radius estimate of 1.48 solar radii, and a temperature of 6000 K. Each of these values is larger or hotter than the Sun's corresponding value. One planet has been found orbiting this star.

That planet is KELT-15 b, a Jupiter-like world discovered by the transit method in 2016. A transit occurs when a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, dimming the observed brightness; repeated dips help establish orbital periods. KELT-15 b completes an orbit every 3.33 days. Its reported radius estimate is 19.5 Earth radii and its reported mass estimate is 416 Earth masses; both are larger than Earth's. Its mean density is 0.309 g/cm³, which is 0.0561 times Earth's.
