K2-55 b: A Jupiter-Like World Around a Cool Dwarf

K2-55 is a star 520 light-years away with one known planet. The star is smaller and less massive than the Sun, with 0.688 solar masses and 0.715 solar radii, and its temperature of 4300 K makes it cooler than the Sun.

The sole known planet, K2-55 b, is a Jupiter-like world, meaning its radius exceeds four times Earth's. It was discovered by the transit method, in which a planet passing in front of its star produces a small dip in observed brightness. K2-55 b has a radius of 4.43 Earth radii and a mass of 44 Earth masses, both larger than Earth's corresponding values. Its mean density is 2.79 g/cm³, 0.506 times Earth's. The planet completes one orbit every 2.85 days.
