K2-409: A Sun-Like Star and Its Super-Earth

K2-409 is a G4 star located 1,410 light-years away. Its spectral type places it in the same broad temperature class as the Sun, making it a Sun-like star. Stellar measurements indicate a mass of 0.886 solar masses, a radius of 1.23 solar radii, and a temperature of 5740 K. The reported radius estimate is larger than the Sun's. The K2-409 system hosts one known planet, K2-409 b, discovered by the transit method in 2022.

K2-409 b is a Super-Earth with a radius of 2.48 Earth radii, larger than Earth's radius. Its size classification compares its radius with Earth's: a Super-Earth reaches 2.5 times Earth's radius. This planet completes an orbit around its host star in 1.91 days. The transit method detects such planets when they pass in front of their star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness; repeated dips help establish orbital periods.
