K2-354 b: A Super-Earth Orbiting a Small Cool Star

K2-354 is a star 299 light-years away with one planet. The star has a mass of 0.43 solar masses and a radius of 0.41 solar radii, making it both less massive and smaller than the Sun. Its temperature is 3670 K, cooler than the Sun.

The planet, K2-354 b, is a Super-Earth discovered by transit in 2021. A transit occurs when a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness; repeated dips help establish orbital periods. K2-354 b orbits with a period of 3.79 days and has a radius of 1.56 Earth radii, larger than Earth's. Its size class groups it as a Super-Earth, meaning its radius is between 1.5 and 2.5 times Earth's.
