K2-295: A Cool Dwarf and Its Single Known Planet

K2-295 is a K-type main-sequence star 759 light-years away. Its spectral type, K5 V, places it among the cooler, redder stars. The star has a mass of 0.74 solar masses and a radius of 0.7 solar radii, both smaller than the Sun's, and a temperature of 4440 K, cooler than the Sun.

One planet is known to orbit this star. K2-295 b was discovered by transit in 2018. A transit occurs when a planet crosses in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a slight dip in observed brightness. K2-295 b is Jupiter-like, a class that exceeds 4 times Earth's radius, and its radius of 10.1 Earth radii is larger than Earth's. Its mass of 106 Earth masses is also larger than Earth's. The planet completes an orbit every 4.02 days.

K2-295 b's mean density is 0.577 g/cm³, 0.105 times Earth's.
