K2-292 b: A Neptune-Like World Orbiting a Sun-Like Star

K2-292 is a G3 V star located 373 light-years away, and it hosts one known planet. The star is a main-sequence dwarf with a spectral class similar to the Sun's. It is estimated to be 6.8 billion years old, with a mass of 1 solar masses, a radius of 1.09 solar radii, and a temperature of 5730 K. Its reported radius estimate is larger than the Sun's.

The planet K2-292 b was discovered in 2019 by the transit method, in which a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint and causes a small dip in observed brightness. It is classified as Neptune-like, a size class for planets reaching up to 4 times Earth's radius. K2-292 b has an orbital period of 17 days, a mass of 24.5 Earth masses, and a radius of 2.63 Earth radii. Its reported mass and radius estimates are both larger than Earth's. Its mean density is 7.42 g/cm³, 1.35 times Earth's.
