K2-191 b: A Super-Earth in a Close Orbit

K2-191 is a star located 937 light-years away. It has a mass of 0.901 solar masses and a radius of 0.84 solar radii, making it slightly less massive and slightly smaller than the Sun. Its temperature is 5180 K, which is cooler than the Sun. One planet is known to orbit this star.

That planet, K2-191 b, was discovered in 2018 using the transit method, in which a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint and causes a small dip in observed brightness. Repeated dips help establish orbital periods. K2-191 b completes an orbit every 2.86 days. Its radius is 1.58 Earth radii, larger than Earth's. This radius places it within the Super-Earth size class, which reaches 2.5 times Earth's radius.

The star's reported mass estimate is smaller than the Sun's, and its radius estimate is also smaller than the Sun's.
