K2-188: A Distant Star With Two Transiting Worlds

K2-188 is a star located 1460 light-years away. It is a single-star system with two planets. The star has a mass of 1.07 solar masses and a radius of 1.22 solar radii, which is larger than the Sun's radius. Its temperature is 5910 K, hotter than the Sun's.

Both planets were discovered by transit in 2018. A transit occurs when a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness. Repeated dips help establish orbital periods.

K2-188 b is an Earth-like planet with a radius of 1.35 Earth radii, larger than Earth's radius. It orbits every 1.74 days, the shortest year among the listed planets. K2-188 c is a Neptune-like planet with a radius of 2.83 Earth radii, also larger than Earth's radius. It orbits every 7.81 days, the longest year among the listed planets. Among the listed planets, K2-188 b has the smallest radius and K2-188 c has the largest.
