K2-156 b: A Close-In Earth-Sized World

K2-156 is a star 490 light-years from Earth with one known planet, K2-156 b, discovered by transit in 2018. A transit occurs when a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness. The star has a mass of 0.66 solar masses, a radius of 0.66 solar radii, and a temperature of 4600 K, making it smaller, less massive, and cooler than the Sun.

K2-156 b is classified as Earth-like, a size class for planets with radii within 1.5 times Earth's. Its radius is 1.1 Earth radii, larger than Earth's, and it completes an orbit every 0.813 days. That short orbital period reflects its position as a close-in planet, though its exact distance from the star is not specified.
