K2-148: A Cool Star with Three Small Worlds

K2-148 is a star located 406 light-years away, and it hosts three known planets. The star has a reported mass of 0.65 solar masses and a radius of 0.632 solar radii, both smaller than the Sun's. Its temperature is 4080 K, which is cooler than the Sun's.

All three planets were discovered in 2018 by the transit method, in which a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint and causes a small dip in observed brightness. Repeated dips help establish orbital periods.

K2-148 b is classified as Earth-like, with a radius of 1.33 Earth radii that is larger than Earth's. Among the listed planets it has the shortest year, an orbital period of 4.38 days, and the smallest radius.

K2-148 c and K2-148 d are both classified as Super-Earths. K2-148 c has a radius of 1.73 Earth radii, larger than Earth's, and among the listed planets the largest radius and the second-shortest year, at 6.92 days. K2-148 d has a radius of 1.64 Earth radii, larger than Earth's, and among the listed planets the second-smallest radius and the longest year, at 9.76 days.
