HATS-24 b: A Close-Orbiting Giant Around an F-Type Star

HATS-24 is a single star located 1610 light-years away. It is an F V star, a class hotter than the Sun, with a temperature of 6350 K, a mass of 1.21 solar masses, and a radius of 1.17 solar radii. Its age is 0.88 billion years. The star is orbited by one planet, HATS-24 b.

HATS-24 b is a Jupiter-like planet, a class that exceeds four times Earth's radius, and it was discovered in 2017 by the transit method, in which a planet passes in front of its star and causes a small dip in observed brightness. Its radius is 15.6 Earth radii, larger than Earth's, and its mass is 718 Earth masses, also larger than Earth's and roughly 2.26 times Jupiter's mass. Its mean density is 1.04 g/cm³, 0.188 times Earth's. The planet completes an orbit in 1.35 days.
