HATS-22 is a K-type main-sequence dwarf star located 749 light-years away. It has a reported mass of 0.759 solar masses and a radius of 0.689 solar radii, both smaller than the Sun's, and a temperature of 4800 K, which is cooler than the Sun's. One planet orbits this star.
That planet, HATS-22 b, was discovered in 2017 by the transit method, which detects the small dip in a star's brightness as a planet passes in front of it. It is a Jupiter-like planet, a class defined by a radius exceeding four times Earth's. HATS-22 b has a radius of 10.7 Earth radii, larger than Earth's, and a mass of 871 Earth masses, also larger than Earth's and roughly 2.74 times Jupiter's mass. It completes one orbit every 4.72 days. Its mean density is 3.94 g/cm³, 0.714 times Earth's.
