HAT-P-55 b: A Jupiter-Like World in a Distant Star System

HAT-P-55 is a star located 1670 light-years away. It has an age of 5.3 billion years, and its mass is 1.03 solar masses. The star's radius is 1.11 solar radii, larger than the Sun's, and its temperature is 5800 K. One planet orbits this host.

That planet is HAT-P-55 b, a Jupiter-like world discovered in 2015 by the transit method, in which a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness. Its radius is 14.8 Earth radii, larger than Earth's, and its mass is 189 Earth masses, also larger than Earth's. The planet completes one orbit, its year, in 3.59 days. Its mean density is 0.319 g/cm³, 0.058 times Earth's.
