HAT-P-45 b: A Jupiter-Like World in Transit

HAT-P-45 is a star 974 light-years from Earth, hosts one known planet. The star is 2 billion years old and has a mass of 1.26 solar masses, a radius of 1.32 solar radii, and a temperature of 6330 K. Its reported mass and radius estimates are larger than the Sun's, and its reported temperature is hotter than the Sun's.

The planet HAT-P-45 b was discovered in 2014 by the transit method, in which a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint and causes a small dip in observed brightness. Repeated dips help establish orbital periods. This Jupiter-like planet has a radius of 16 Earth radii, larger than Earth's, and a mass of 283 Earth masses, larger than Earth's. Its orbital period is 3.13 days. Its mean density is 0.383 g/cm³, 0.0694 times Earth's.
