Planet HAT-P-37 b and Its Host Star

HAT-P-37 is a star 1270 light-years away with one known planet in orbit around it. The host star has a mass of 0.929 solar masses, a radius of 0.877 solar radii, and a temperature of 5500 K. Its reported mass and radius estimates are both smaller than the Sun's, and its reported temperature is cooler than the Sun's.

The planet HAT-P-37 b is a Jupiter-like world, a size class that describes a radius exceeding 4 times Earth's. It was discovered by the transit method, in which a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint and causes a small dip in observed brightness; repeated dips help establish orbital periods. HAT-P-37 b completes its orbit in 2.8 days and has a radius of 13.2 Earth radii, which is larger than Earth's. Its mass of 372 Earth masses is also larger than Earth's and roughly 1.17 times Jupiter's mass.

Beyond those figures, HAT-P-37 b's mean density is 0.889 g/cm³, 0.161 times Earth's.
