HAT-P-35 and Its Jupiter-Like Planet

HAT-P-35 is a star 1650 light-years away with one planet. The host star has a mass of 1.18 solar masses and a radius of 1.36 solar radii. Its temperature is 6180 K. The star's reported mass and radius estimates are larger than the Sun's, and its reported temperature is hotter than the Sun's.

The planet HAT-P-35 b was discovered in 2011 by the transit method, in which a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint and causes a small dip in observed brightness. Repeated dips help establish orbital periods. HAT-P-35 b is Jupiter-like, a size class for planets exceeding 4 times Earth's radius. It orbits its star every 3.65 days. Its radius is 14.9 Earth radii, larger than Earth's. Its mass is 336 Earth masses, larger than Earth's and roughly 1.06 times Jupiter's mass. Its mean density is 0.556 g/cm³, 0.101 times Earth's.
