GQ Lup and Its Giant Planet

GQ Lup is a star 493 light-years away with a spectral type of K7e V(Li) and a temperature of 4090 K, cooler than the Sun. Its radius is 1.83 solar radii, larger than the Sun's.

One planet orbits GQ Lup. GQ Lup b is a Jupiter-like planet discovered by imaging in 2004. Its radius is 33.6 Earth radii, larger than Earth's, and its mass is 6360 Earth masses, larger than Earth's and roughly 20 times Jupiter's mass. Its mean density is 0.923 g/cm³, 0.168 times Earth's. No orbital period is reported for GQ Lup b.
