GJ 2126 b: A Giant Planet Orbiting a Small Red Dwarf

GJ 2126 is an M0 V star, a small, cool red dwarf, located 124 light-years away. Its reported mass estimate is 0.65 solar masses and its radius estimate is 0.728 solar radii, both smaller than the Sun's. The star's reported temperature of 4160 K is cooler than the Sun's. One planet orbits this host.

GJ 2126 b was discovered in 2025 by the radial velocity method, which measures the wobble a planet's gravity induces in its star's motion; repeated wobbles reveal the planet and its orbital period. The planet's minimum mass is 413 Earth masses, a lower bound on its true mass, and it completes one orbit every 273 days. Its minimum mass is larger than Earth's and roughly 1.3 times Jupiter's mass.
