CoRoT-4 and Its Jupiter-Like Planet

CoRoT-4 is a star 2370 light-years away with a single known planet in its system, CoRoT-4 b. The host star is 0.8 billion years old, holds 1.19 solar masses, spans 1.15 solar radii, and has a temperature of 6190 K. Its reported mass and radius estimates are larger than the Sun's, and its reported temperature is hotter than the Sun's.

CoRoT-4 b is a Jupiter-like planet discovered by transit in 2008. A transit occurs when a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness; repeated dips help establish orbital periods. The planet's radius of 13.3 Earth radii is larger than Earth's. Its mass estimate of 229 Earth masses is also larger than Earth's. CoRoT-4 b completes an orbit in 9.2 days, and its mean density is 0.531 g/cm³, 0.0964 times Earth's.
