CoRoT-24: A K-Type Dwarf and Its Two Planets

CoRoT-24 is a K1 V star located 1930 light-years away. A spectral type like K1 V places the star in the K temperature class, cooler and redder than the Sun's G class, with the trailing V marking a main-sequence dwarf. The star is 11 billion years old and has a mass of 0.91 solar masses. Its radius of 0.86 solar radii is smaller than the Sun's, and its temperature of 4950 K is cooler than the Sun's.

Two planets are known to orbit this host. CoRoT-24 b was discovered by transit in 2014 and is Neptune-like in size class, which compares radius with Earth's: a Neptune-like planet reaches 4 times Earth's radius. CoRoT-24 b has a radius of 3.7 Earth radii, larger than Earth's, and a reported upper limit of 5.7 Earth masses. Its orbital period is 5.11 days. Among the listed planets, it has the shortest year by reported estimates and the smallest radius by reported estimates.

CoRoT-24 c was also discovered by transit in 2014 but is Jupiter-like, a size class exceeding 4 times Earth's radius. Its radius is 5 Earth radii, larger than Earth's, and its mass of 28 Earth masses is likewise larger than Earth's. Its mean density is 1.23 g/cm³, 0.224 times Earth's. CoRoT-24 c completes an orbit in 11.8 days. Among the listed planets, it has the longest year by reported estimates and the largest radius by reported estimates.
