CoRoT-2 and Its Planet

CoRoT-2 is a star 696 light-years away with one known planet. The host star's measurements describe that star alone rather than the whole two-star system. Its radius is 0.907 solar radii, smaller than the Sun's, and its temperature is 5700 K, cooler than the Sun's. The star is 1.02 solar masses and 0.6 billion years old.

The planet CoRoT-2 b was discovered by transit in 2008, when it passed in front of its star from our viewpoint. It is a Jupiter-like planet, a size class that exceeds 4 times Earth's radius. Its radius is 16.4 Earth radii, larger than Earth's. Its mass is 1100 Earth masses, larger than Earth's and roughly 3.47 times Jupiter's mass. Its mean density is 1.37 g/cm³, 0.249 times Earth's. CoRoT-2 b completes an orbit in 1.74 days.
