ups Leo: A Giant Star and Its One Known Planet

ups Leo is a G9 III star located 172 light-years away, with a reported mass of 1.48 solar masses, a radius of 11.2 solar radii, and a temperature of 4840 K. Its mass and radius are larger than the Sun's, and its temperature is cooler than the Sun's. One known planet orbits this host.

That planet is ups Leo b, discovered by the radial velocity method in 2021. The radial velocity method measures the wobble a planet's gravity induces in its star's motion, and repeated wobbles reveal the planet and its orbital period. ups Leo b has a minimum mass of 162 Earth masses, larger than Earth's, and an orbital period of 385 days.
