nu Oct A b: A Giant Planet Around a K-Type Subgiant

The star nu Oct A lies 69.1 light-years away and has a spectral type of K1 IV. It is 2.7 billion years old and has a mass of 1.57 solar masses, larger than the Sun's. Its radius of 5.04 solar radii is also larger than the Sun's, while its temperature of 4910 K is cooler than the Sun's. One planet orbits this host.

That planet is nu Oct A b, discovered in 2016 by the radial velocity method, which detects the wobble a planet's gravity induces in its star's motion. Its mass of 696 Earth masses is larger than Earth's and roughly 2.19 times Jupiter's mass. The planet completes its orbit in 402 days.
