gam1 Leo and Its Planet

gam1 Leo is a binary star system 130 light-years away. Its host star has spectral type K0 and is 2.41 billion years old. The star's reported mass estimate is 1.46 solar masses, larger than the Sun's, and its reported radius estimate is 28.4 solar radii, also larger than the Sun's. Its temperature is 4400 K, cooler than the Sun's.

One planet is known to orbit this host. gam1 Leo b was discovered in 2009 by the radial velocity method, which measures the wobble a planet's gravity induces in its star's motion. Its minimum mass is 2790 Earth masses, a lower bound on its true mass and larger than Earth's, or roughly 8.78 times Jupiter's mass. The planet completes an orbit in 429 days.
