XO-5 and Its Jupiter-Like Planet

XO-5 is a Sun-like star 901 light-years away with a spectral type of G8 V. Its planets number one. The star is 8.5 billion years old, holds 1 solar mass, spans 1.11 solar radii, and has a temperature of 5510 K. Its radius is larger than the Sun's, while its temperature is cooler.

The single world is XO-5 b, discovered in 2008 by the transit method, in which a planet crosses in front of its star and briefly dims it. Classified as Jupiter-like, XO-5 b has a mass of 378 Earth masses - roughly 1.19 times Jupiter's mass - and a radius of 12.8 Earth radii. Both its mass and radius are larger than Earth's. It completes an orbit every 4.19 days. Its mean density comes to 0.998 g/cm³, 0.181 times Earth's.
