WASP-6 b: A Jupiter-Like World in a Close Orbit

WASP-6 is a star located 643 light-years away, with a mass of 0.854 solar masses and a radius of 0.79 solar radii. Its reported mass and radius estimates are both smaller than the Sun's, and its temperature of 5440 K is cooler than the Sun's. The star is 3.2 billion years old.

One planet orbits WASP-6: WASP-6 b, a Jupiter-like world discovered by transit in 2009. A transit occurs when a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness. WASP-6 b has a mass of 148 Earth masses and a radius of 12.5 Earth radii, both larger than Earth's. Its orbital period is 3.36 days, and its mean density is 0.414 g/cm³, 0.0752 times Earth's.
