WASP-45 b: A Jupiter-Like Planet Orbiting a Cool Dwarf

WASP-45 is a K2 V star located 689 light-years away. Its spectral type indicates a main-sequence dwarf cooler than the Sun, and it has a reported temperature of 5100 K. The star's mass estimate is 0.904 solar masses and its radius estimate is 0.917 solar radii, both smaller than the Sun's corresponding values. Its age is 7.2 billion years. One planet orbits this host.

WASP-45 b is a Jupiter-like planet discovered in 2011 by the transit method, in which a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint and causes a small dip in observed brightness. Its radius is 10.6 Earth radii, larger than Earth's, and its mass is 306 Earth masses, also larger than Earth's. Its mean density is 1.42 g/cm³, 0.257 times Earth's. WASP-45 b completes an orbit in 3.13 days.
