WASP-186 is a star located 908 light-years away with a spectral type of F, a temperature class hotter than the Sun's G type. It has an age of 3.1 billion years, a mass of 1.22 solar masses, a radius of 1.47 solar radii, and a temperature of 6360 K. Its reported mass and radius estimates are both larger than the Sun's, and its reported temperature is hotter than the Sun's. One planet is known to orbit this host.
That planet, WASP-186 b, is a Jupiter-like world, a size class that exceeds 4 times Earth's radius. It was discovered in 2020 by the transit method, in which a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint and causes a small dip in observed brightness; repeated dips help establish orbital periods. WASP-186 b has an orbital period of 5.03 days, a mass of 1340 Earth masses, and a radius of 12.4 Earth radii. Its reported mass and radius estimates are both larger than Earth's, with the mass roughly 4.22 times Jupiter's mass. Its mean density is 3.84 g/cm³, 0.696 times Earth's.
