WASP-178 and Its Lone Known Planet

WASP-178 is a star 1390 light-years away with a spectral type of A1 IV-V. It is 0.43 billion years old, has 1.93 solar masses, 1.8 solar radii, and a temperature of 8640 K. One planet is known to orbit this host.

That planet is WASP-178 b, a Jupiter-like world discovered by transit in 2019. It has 528 Earth masses, a radius of 20.3 Earth radii, and an orbital period of 3.34 days. Its mass is roughly 1.66 times Jupiter's mass, and its mean density is 0.348 g/cm³, 0.0632 times Earth's. The star's reported mass and radius estimates are larger than the Sun's, and its reported temperature is hotter than the Sun's. WASP-178 b's reported mass and radius estimates are larger than Earth's.
