WASP-168 b: A Jupiter-Like World Around an F9 V Star

WASP-168 is a star of spectral type F9 V located 991 light-years away. Its reported mass is 1.08 solar masses, its radius is 1.12 solar radii, its temperature is 6000 K, and its age is 3.96 billion years. The star's reported mass and radius estimates are larger than the Sun's, and its reported temperature is hotter than the Sun's. One planet is known to orbit this host.

That planet, WASP-168 b, was discovered in 2018 by the transit method, in which a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint and causes a small dip in observed brightness. It is a Jupiter-like planet, a size class that exceeds 4 times Earth's radius. Its radius is 16.8 Earth radii, larger than Earth's, and its mass is 133 Earth masses, also larger than Earth's. It completes an orbit in 4.15 days. Its mean density is 0.155 g/cm³, 0.0281 times Earth's.
