WASP-140 b: A Jupiter-Like World Around a Cooler Star

WASP-140 is a K0 star located 384 light-years away. Its reported mass is 0.9 solar masses and its reported radius is 0.87 solar radii, both smaller than the Sun's. The star's reported temperature is 5260 K, cooler than the Sun's, and its age carries a reported lower limit of 0.5 billion years. One planet is known to orbit this host.

That planet, WASP-140 b, was discovered in 2016 by the transit method, which detects the small dip in a star's brightness when a planet crosses in front of it from our viewpoint. WASP-140 b is Jupiter-like, a size class for planets exceeding 4 times Earth's radius. Its reported radius estimate is 14.2 Earth radii, larger than Earth's. No orbital period is reported for WASP-140 b.
