WASP-124 and Its Jupiter-Like Planet

WASP-124 is a star of spectral type F9, which places it in the hotter F class, and it lies 1460 light-years away. Its mass is 1.07 solar masses, its radius is 1.02 solar radii, and its temperature is 6050 K. The star's reported mass estimate is larger than the Sun's, and its reported temperature is hotter than the Sun's. It is 2.1 billion years old. One planet orbits this host.

That planet is WASP-124 b, discovered in 2016 by the transit method, in which a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint and causes a small dip in observed brightness. WASP-124 b is a Jupiter-like planet, a size class that exceeds 4 times Earth's radius. Its orbital period is 3.37 days. Its radius is 13.9 Earth radii, larger than Earth's, and its mass is 191 Earth masses, also larger than Earth's. Its mean density is 0.391 g/cm³, 0.071 times Earth's.
