WASP-116 is a star 1820 light-years away with one known planet in orbit around it. The host star is 1.7 billion years old and has a mass of 1.25 solar masses, a radius of 1.43 solar radii, and a temperature of 6250 K. Its mass, radius, and temperature are each larger or hotter than the Sun's corresponding values.
The planet is WASP-116 b, a Jupiter-like world discovered by the transit method in 2025. A transit occurs when a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness. WASP-116 b completes an orbit every 6.61 days. Its radius is 13.7 Earth radii, larger than Earth's, and its mass is 203 Earth masses. The planet's mean density is 0.438 g/cm³, which is 0.0795 times Earth's.
