WASP-104 b: A Transiting Giant in a Two-Star System

WASP-104 is a G8 star 606 light-years away, with an age of 3 billion years. Its measured mass is 1.08 solar masses, its radius is 0.963 solar radii, and its temperature is 5480 K. The star has one known planet.

That planet is WASP-104 b, discovered in 2014 by the transit method, in which a planet passing in front of its star from our viewpoint causes a small dip in observed brightness. WASP-104 b is a Jupiter-like planet, a size class for worlds exceeding 4 times Earth's radius. Its radius is 12.7 Earth radii, larger than Earth's, and its mass is 404 Earth masses, also larger than Earth's, or roughly 1.27 times Jupiter's mass. Its mean density is 1.08 g/cm³, 0.195 times Earth's. WASP-104 b completes an orbit every 1.76 days.
