WASP-102 and Its Jupiter-like Planet

WASP-102 is a star 1750 light-years away with one known planet. The host star is 0.67 billion years old and has a mass of 1.08 solar masses, a radius of 1.38 solar radii, and a temperature of 5990 K. Its reported mass and radius estimates are larger than the Sun's, and its reported temperature is hotter than the Sun's.

The planet WASP-102 b is Jupiter-like, meaning its radius exceeds 4 times Earth's radius. It was discovered by transit in 2025, when the planet passed in front of the star from our viewpoint and caused a small dip in observed brightness. It has a mass of 198 Earth masses, a radius of 14.9 Earth radii, and an orbital period of 2.71 days. Its reported radius and mass estimates are larger than Earth's, and its mean density is 0.329 g/cm³, 0.0597 times Earth's.
