WASP-100 b: A Jupiter-Like World Around a Hotter Star

WASP-100 is a binary star system 1190 light-years away whose primary star hosts one known planet. That star is an F2 star with 1.47 solar masses and 1.67 solar radii, placing its mass and radius above the Sun's. Its temperature of 6940 K is hotter than the Sun's, and it is 1.51 billion years old.

The planet WASP-100 b was discovered by the transit method in 2014. It is a Jupiter-like planet, a size class that exceeds 4 times Earth's radius, with a radius of 14.9 Earth radii and a mass of 400 Earth masses. Both its radius and its mass are larger than Earth's. Its mean density is 0.666 g/cm³, 0.121 times Earth's. The planet completes each orbit in 2.85 days.
