TOI-837: A Young Star and Its Jupiter-Like Planet

TOI-837 is a star 465 light-years away with one known planet in orbit. The host is an F9/G0 star, a temperature class slightly hotter than the Sun's G-type. It is very young, with an age of 0.035 billion years, well under the 0.1-billion-year threshold that marks a very young star. Its mass is 1.14 solar masses and its radius is 1.05 solar radii, both larger than the Sun's corresponding values. Its temperature is 6000 K, also hotter than the Sun's.

The single planet, TOI-837 b, was discovered in 2020 by the transit method, which detects the small dip in a star's brightness when a planet passes in front of it. With a radius of 9.17 Earth radii, it is classified as Jupiter-like, since that class exceeds 4 times Earth's radius. Its mass is 120 Earth masses and its orbital period is 8.32 days, the time it takes to complete one orbit. Its mean density is 0.861 g/cm³, 0.156 times Earth's.
