TOI-7008: A Distant Star With a Single Scorching Planet

TOI-7008 is a star 1340 light-years away with a mass of 0.88 solar masses, a radius of 0.953 solar radii, and a temperature of 5170 K. Its reported mass and radius estimates are smaller than the Sun's, and its reported temperature is cooler than the Sun's. One planet orbits this host.

That planet, TOI-7008 b, was discovered by transit in 2026. A transit occurs when a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness; repeated dips help establish orbital periods. TOI-7008 b has an orbital period of 0.841 days and a radius of 4.95 Earth radii, larger than Earth's. Its radius places it in the Jupiter-like size class, which covers planets exceeding 4 times Earth's radius.
