TOI-6420 b: A Distant Jupiter-like World

TOI-6420 is a star located 2070 light-years away, with a mass of 1.17 solar masses and a radius of 1.31 solar radii. It is 4.4 billion years old and has a temperature of 6020 K, making it hotter than the Sun. One planet orbits this host.

That planet, TOI-6420 b, is a Jupiter-like world discovered in 2025 by the transit method, in which a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint and causes a small dip in observed brightness. It completes an orbit in 6.96 days. Its radius of 11.9 Earth radii is larger than Earth's, and its mass of 2610 Earth masses is also larger than Earth's, roughly 8.2 times Jupiter's mass. Its mean density is 8.44 g/cm³, 1.53 times Earth's.
