TOI-5817 b: A Neptune-Like World Orbiting a Distant Star

TOI-5817 is a star 263 light-years away with a spectral type of G2 IV-V. Its mass is 0.97 solar masses and its radius is 1.43 solar radii, meaning the star's reported radius estimate is larger than the Sun's. Its temperature is 5770 K, and its age is 9.7 billion years. One planet is known to orbit this host.

That planet, TOI-5817 b, was discovered in 2025 by the transit method, in which a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint and causes a small dip in observed brightness. It is a Neptune-like planet, a size class that reaches four times Earth's radius. Its radius is 3.08 Earth radii, which is larger than Earth's, and its mass is 10.3 Earth masses, which is also larger than Earth's. The planet's mean density is 1.94 g/cm³, 0.353 times Earth's. It completes an orbit every 15.6 days.
