TOI-5232 b: A Jupiter-like Planet Around a Hotter, Larger Star

TOI-5232 is a star 1990 light-years away with one known planet, TOI-5232 b. The host star is 2.37 billion years old, has a mass of 1.39 solar masses, a radius of 1.79 solar radii, and a temperature of 6500 K. Its reported mass and radius estimates are larger than the Sun's, and its reported temperature is hotter than the Sun's.

TOI-5232 b was discovered in 2024 by the transit method, in which a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint and causes a small dip in observed brightness. Repeated dips help establish orbital periods. The planet is classified as Jupiter-like, meaning its radius exceeds 4 times Earth's radius. Its radius is 12.8 Earth radii, larger than Earth's, and its mass is 744 Earth masses, also larger than Earth's and roughly 2.34 times Jupiter's mass. It completes an orbit every 4.1 days. Its mean density is 1.96 g/cm³, 0.356 times Earth's.
