TOI-4791: A Distant Star With a Close-Orbiting Giant

TOI-4791 is a star 1070 light-years away with one known planet. The star is 3.3 billion years old and has a mass of 1.24 solar masses and a radius of 1.41 solar radii, both larger than the Sun's corresponding values. Its temperature of 6060 K is hotter than the Sun's.

The planet, TOI-4791 b, was discovered in 2023 by the transit method, in which a planet passing in front of its star from our viewpoint causes a small dip in observed brightness. It is a Jupiter-like planet, a size class that exceeds 4 times Earth's radius, and its radius of 12.4 Earth radii is larger than Earth's. Its mass of 734 Earth masses is also larger than Earth's and is roughly 2.31 times Jupiter's mass. TOI-4791 b completes an orbit every 4.28 days. Its mean density is 2.1 g/cm³, 0.381 times Earth's.
