TOI-2981 and Its Jupiter-Like Planet

TOI-2981 is a star 1720 light-years away with an age of 4.5 billion years, a mass of 1.03 solar masses, a radius of 1.08 solar radii, and a temperature of 5940 K. Its reported radius estimate is larger than the Sun's, and its reported temperature is hotter than the Sun's. One planet orbits this host.

That planet is TOI-2981 b, a Jupiter-like world discovered in 2024 by the transit method, in which a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint and causes a small dip in observed brightness. It has a mass of 638 Earth masses, roughly 2.01 times Jupiter's mass and larger than Earth's, and a radius of 13.4 Earth radii, larger than Earth's. Its mean density is 1.46 g/cm³, 0.265 times Earth's. It completes an orbit every 3.6 days.
