TOI-2977 b: A Close-Orbiting Jupiter-Like Planet

TOI-2977 is a single star with one known planet in orbit around it. The star is estimated to be 9.8 billion years old and has a mass of 0.936 solar masses, a radius of 1.07 solar radii, and a temperature of 5690 K. Its reported mass estimate is smaller than the Sun's, while its reported radius estimate is larger than the Sun's.

The planet, TOI-2977 b, is classified as Jupiter-like, a size class for planets exceeding 4 times Earth's radius. It was discovered in 2023 by the transit method, in which a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint and causes a small dip in observed brightness.

TOI-2977 b has a radius of 13.2 Earth radii and a mass of 534 Earth masses, both larger than Earth's corresponding values. Its mass estimate is roughly 1.68 times Jupiter's mass, and its mean density is 1.29 g/cm³, 0.234 times Earth's. The planet completes an orbit in 2.35 days.
