TOI-286: A K-Type Dwarf with Two Small Worlds

TOI-286 is a K3 V star located 193 light-years away. This spectral type indicates a main-sequence dwarf cooler than the Sun. The star has a reported mass of 0.832 solar masses and a radius of 0.78 solar radii, both smaller than the Sun's corresponding values. Its reported temperature of 5150 K is cooler than the Sun's. Two planets are known to orbit this host.

TOI-286 b was discovered by transit in 2024. Its radius of 1.42 Earth radii and its mass of 4.53 Earth masses both exceed Earth's. Its mean density is 8.72 g/cm³, 1.58 times Earth's. Its orbital period is 4.51 days, the shortest among the listed planets.

TOI-286 c, also found by transit in 2024, is classified as a Super-Earth. Its radius of 1.88 Earth radii is larger than Earth's and the largest among the listed planets, while its reported mass of 3.72 Earth masses is the smallest among them. Its mean density is 3.08 g/cm³, 0.56 times Earth's. TOI-286 c completes one orbit in 39.4 days, the longest among the listed planets. Both planets are larger and more massive than Earth.
